A.G.B.U. Zaroukian School offers a full-day program for children from Pre-Nursery to Grade 5 in an enriched classroom environment offering a low student-teacher ratio.
Our curriculum complies with the Ontario Ministry of Education guidelines. The academic standards are assessed through the school’s participation in Grade 3 EQAO. Teachers assess student progress towards achieving expectations on an ongoing basis by using strategies such as projects, class presentations, homework assignments, classroom observations, portfolios of student work and tests.
Teachers participate in ongoing Professional Development.
Pre Nursery/Nursery Program
The Pre Nursery/Nursery program, planned for 2 and 3 year old children, is divided into half day Armenian and half a day English program. It is a comprehensive readiness program. The young child is introduced to the excitement, challenge and the joy of learning. The program is theme based. Singing, building, painting, coloring, talking and listening all contribute to the child’s social and academic development and enhance his/her self–awareness and self-esteem. Students work on letter recognition and numbers. Teachers concentrate on open ended questioning, manners, positive behavior, following rules and self help skills. Many resources are used such as DVDs, Science Kits, Story CDs, educational toys and games. Children work alone or with the teacher in a small group or with the whole class mastering concepts in a warm, caring, happy and secure environment.
Kindergarten – Junior and Senior Kindergarten
The objective of the Kindergarten Program is to provide a secure, respectful and nurturing environment for our young learners. The curriculum provides opportunities for learning, self-expression and self discovery in a variety of areas providing many opportunities for children to investigate and explore. Music, drama, games, language activities and cooperative activities with peers supports curriculum goals. Classroom teaching is intended to focus directly on the development of every student’s capability to listen, speak, read and write in both English and Armenian languages. The curriculum focuses on literacy, numeracy, science, environmental studies, computer, art, music and physical education. Teachers plan whole-class instruction, small group learning, independent learning and activities in a variety of learning centres. Children are encouraged to be responsible with their time and in their work.
Elementary – Grades 1-5
The elementary program comprises Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Environmental Studies, French, Music, Art, Computer Studies and Physical Education. Teachers follow programs and expectations outlined in the Ontario Ministry of Education documents. The programs accommodate modifications to meet the needs of each student. Independent as well as group work is encouraged starting with the younger classes.
• The elementary language curriculum is designed to foster a life-long appreciation of literature, independent thought, and competency in the use of oral and written English.
• The math curriculum teaches the students to understand the structure and language of mathematics in theoretical and real life situations.
• Students develop basic skills of science, which include observing, comparing, organizing, inferring, relating and applying data.
• The French language program, introduced in J.K., is accelerated and aims to prepare students for French immersion at the middle school level.
• Armenian studies are an integral part of the school curriculum. It is intended to offer each student the opportunity to develop proficiency in the Armenian language, and to gain knowledge in Armenian history, religion, culture and traditions.

UniformsUniforms are mandatory at the AGBU Zaroukian School. All items may be purchased through the school office with the exception of shoes and socks. Uniforms are as follows:
