An Honoured Guest

On Friday February 24th our school was honored by a visit from the celebrated Armenian composer Jirayr Shahrimanyan.
He arrived from Armenia a few days ago and will stay in Toronto until the end of April.
He spent the morning with our students and Music teacher Hripsime Demirdjian.
Our school choir will be performing his music at the Talent Show in March .

Vartanantz and Paregentan

On Thursday February 15th our grades 1-5 students participated in a Vartanatz Hantes in the auditorium of our school. Armenian teachers prepared the students to perform in a wonderful play about this event. Grade 5 students took a leadership role in this concert. We were all moved by their fantastic performance.
Many parents attended and enjoyed coffee and treats at the end of this Hantes.

On Friday February 24th the entire school participated in Paregentan in the lobby. Colorful costumes and wonderful recitals, plays and dances made this a very pleasant afternoon for all. It was great to see so many parents in attendance.

Annual School Bazaar

School Bazaar

On Sunday February 5th, our school held its annual School Bazaar.
What a fun event! All participants young and old enjoyed the day.
Our Parent Council worked very hard preparing food and organizing fun activities and events for all to participate in. Many hours of work went into making this day a real success. We certainly appreciate all their efforts.

We also appreciate the support of the AGBU Toronto Community who came out and enjoyed the day with us.

Our students visit the Senior’s Centre

Our grade 1-5 students visited the Armenian Senior’s Centre on Tuesday January 10th 2012. Our students enchanted our senior’s with beautiful Religious Songs and Christmas Cheer. This has been a tradition over the last few years, an event both our students and our senior citizens look forward to.

AGBU Zaroukian School’s Visit to the Library

On Monday, December 12, 2011 the AGBU Zaroukian School students from Grade 1-5 visited the ARS Klatzor Library for the 500th Anniversary of the Printing of the First Armenian Book. They heard the guests from Armenia accompanying the Book Exhibit talk about the value and inportance of books. Our students recited poems prepared for the Armenian Earthquake. Everyone enjoyed the visit to the library and learning about the history of Armenian books.

Walk-a-thon

Walk-a-thon…What a success!!

It was a beautiful Fall Day for our school’s Walk-a-thon.
Parents, staff and students headed out for the 5 km. walk with great enthusiasm and gusto, enjoying this lovely autumn day.
At our half way point we stopped for a short rest and took group pictures. When we returned to the school everyone enjoyed snacks and drinks and some students were even lucky to win raffle prizes.
This was truly a lovely community event enjoyed by all.

AGBU Zaroukian School celebrates 20 years of Armenian Independence

On September 21st, all students and teachers made their exit out of the school towards the Monument and Flag Mast in a long procession waving Armenian Flags. Many parents came to show their support.
Our students assembled in the school yard and sang the Armenian National Anthem and Oh Canada as flags were raised to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Armenian Independence.
Grade three and five students took a leadership role in holding flags and reciting poems that reflected their love for Armenia.

Father Zareh Zargarian was present and spoke to the students emphasizing how lucky they were to be “the children of free Armenia” and told them about the many sacrifices their grandparents made to make this anniversary so meaningful.
Father Zareh emphasized that this is indeed a Happy Celebration.
Students and Guests assembled in the school lobby to sing patriotic Armenian Songs and Shnorhavor Daretarts/Happy Birthday.
A cake with twenty candles was the centre piece and was certainly enjoyed by all.

Very Special Visitors
On Monday September 26th our school was honored with two very special visitors –
H.E. Armen Yeganian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in Canada, accompanied by his wife, Maria Yeganian and Hon. Robert Avetisyan, the official Representative of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. They visited our school and met with our students.
Our distinguished guests were accompanied by Rev. Archpriest Father Zareh Zargarian, Mr. Berge Papazian, Secretary of the Central Board of AGBU as well as AGBU Toronto Board Members.
Our students greeted the visitors with bread and salt and sang songs and recited poems.

Planting Flowers in Grade 3

On September 13, 2011, the Grade 3 students planted flowers in the small square where there are lots and lots of other flowers.
They were learning about flowers in science with their teacher Ms. Brown when a student came up with a wonderful idea of planting…. flowers! Then Ms. Brown said, “Good idea! Let’s do that!”

The Grade 3s planted them, and after one day, looked to see if they were growing. They put something that made it grow called fertilizing liquid. It makes flowers start growing every year. And it grew and grew every day, just like the children.

The Primate visits our school

On Wednesday September 14th our school was honored with a very special visitor.
His Eminence Bishop Bagrat Galsdanyan, Primate and Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian visited our school. His Eminence spoke to our students and blessed them and their teachers and wished everyone a productive and great school year.
The visit ended with our choir singing songs.
This was indeed a pleasant surprise and a wonderful beginning to our school year.
